Solar powered water pumping system (no site visit)
"After sending my locations and details. SCL Water did everything they said they would do, and the equipment matched their expectations. I can now build my stock numbers without the worry of knowing where their next drink will come from. I would highly recommend because of all the reasons mentioned above." - Will
The Project
Our customer, located on the east coast of Scotland has now purchased from SCL Water a second Grundfos solar powered water pumping system, being delighted with the first. In both cases he had no power source and his requirement was to pump water from remote spring fed sites to holding tanks several hundred meters distant. In addition, the head height between source and destination was significant. To compound the problem there was no line of sight from the source of supply to the holding tanks.
SCL Water designed a unique solution using a pressure sensor installed in the supply line that was linked to a Grundfos control box near the solar pump. This solution switched the Grundfos solar pump on and off depending upon the height of water in the holding tanks. With the distance between pump and holding tank being significant, friction loss and water hammer had to be addressed. By using the Grundfos solar pump modelling tool SCL was able to use pressure and flow as key parameters to help calculate the correct pumping solution.
It is important to note that at no stage has SCL been required to visit the customer site. The customer was able to speak with SCL installation experts who were able to talk him through the information required in order to specify the correct system and subsequently the steps he would need to undertake in order to deliver a working solution.
