Ghana Community
SCL Water pumps recently supplied this solar pump project in Ghana. A case study of this project, with customer feedback follows.
“A lot of communities in Ghana still lack potable water for several reasons. Some of them have been fortunate to have the government or NGO’s come to their aid in providing them with hand pump mechanized borehole. Most of these hand pump mechanized boreholes often break down leaving the people with terrible options to get water some of which includes fetching from bushes. We are therefore contracted to remove the faulty hand pumps and mechanized them with solar powered Grundfos pump. Among the pictures below is Abeyee, a community of about 2000 people in the central region of Ghana with only one borehole so they are compelled to walk several kilometers to fetch unclean water whenever it’s faulty which frequently happens though. The people couldn’t even wait for us to finish converting the hand pump to solar powered Grundfos pump, so we used just four of the 16 solar panels to give them temporary water while the work was in progress.
Thank you.

The picture above is of a water supply kiosk at Daboasi in the Western region of Ghana. The plan for other installations is to get the village elders to charge a small amount for the water so that the money can be used to pay for the maintenance and to be ploughed back into the economy for growing vegetables etc.
This village had problems with their hand pump so it was removed and Grundfos solar pump installed in its place
At Ochereso a central distribution point was installed away from the borehole so contamination has been minimised. The flow and quality of the water from the village tap has transformed the village use of their precious water.
The well head above the borehole needs to be protected from contamination. This is a picture of the work in progress at Ochereso in the North District.
This solar system is at Anani krom near Agogo in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The pump is a high flow , low head model and has been in operation since 2014. The village are delighted.
“Fintey is another community with severe water challenges in the eastern region of Ghana where we successfully installed a Grundfos pump supplied by SCL Water, that replaced the ineffective pump they had. With the Grundfos SQF 2.5-2, they still get water even in bad weather.”
